Pittsburgh Male Athlete of the Week
School: Seneca Valley
Sport: Track & Field
Notable: Blinn, a Lafayette recruit, won the 100-meter dash at the Butler Track and Field Invitational, finishing in 11.4 seconds in storm-like conditions Friday afternoon.
“We’re trying to get a way to get him to fail back to 11th grade so we can have him an extra year,” Seneca Valley coach Ray Peaco said, jokingly. “He’s a tough kid. He’ll run in rain, wind, and he even ran a few weeks ago in a meet with Erie Strong Vincent in the snow. It doesn’t bother him because he loves to run.”
How did the weather affect your preparation for Friday’s event?
I definitely warmed up more because I didn’t want to get hurt. It was getting a little cold, so I stayed inside to keep warm and stretch. The other (runners) had to deal with the same conditions, though.
What about Lafayette attracted you to sign with them?
I really like the coach, and they have really nice facilities. The academics at Lafayette are good, too.
Have they given you any expectations as an incoming freshman?
I know they have a senior (right now) that I’m supposed to replace. I think they’re planning on throwing me in right away.
What major do you plan on pursuing?
International relations and affairs. I’ll probably (try to) get a government job. I also like traveling.
