A 38-year-old Pittsburgh man faces charges of unlawful contact with a minor after allegedly holding sexually explicit online conversations with an undercover detective he thought was a teenage girl.
Robert S. Shaffer of Pittsburgh's Bloomfield section was charged and jailed after failing to post the $50,000 bond set by Star Junction District Judge Richard Kasunic II.
Police said the Southwest Regional Police Department detective noticed an Internet ad titled “Looking for Young Lover” and decided to pose as a female juvenile to respond to it.
Police allege Shaffer engaged in sexually suggestive conversations with the detective, then later offered to meet the “young girl to engage in sexual acts.”
Police said a pre-arranged meeting was set up in Belle Vernon on March 14 and when Shaffer arrived, he was arrested.
