The state will give Pittsburgh police $10,000 to help pay for a police dog.

Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Highland Park, said Monday he had secured a grant for that purpose from the Department of Community and Economic Development. The dog would replace Ulf, a German shepherd killed in action last week during a shootout that left a Knoxville man dead.

Ferlo said the money could be used to secure, train, house and deploy another canine.
