Pittsburgh YMCA selects P.J. Dick to build new branch
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh today announced it has selected P.J. Dick Inc. of West Mifflin to build its Thelma Lovette Family YMCA in the Hill District.
The facility, named for lifelong community activist and volunteer Thelma Lovette, will sit on an entire block on Centre Avenue between Hemans, Addison and Elmore streets.
It will be a full-service YMCA branch, with wellness programming, support services for families and individuals, community meeting space, senior resources and programs, and youth and teen enrichment programs, the organization said.
Work will begin the first quarter of next year, and is expectecd to be complete in fall 2010.
A community meeting about the project is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the YMCA's Hill District location, 2621 Centre Ave. The meeting will be in the branch's basketball court.
