Pizza Outlet names director of franchising
Pittsburgh-based Pizza Outlet appointed Tiffini A. Carvell director of franchising. She comes to Pizza Outlet after working as franchise sales manager for Vancouver-based Papa Murphy's International. Before joining Papa Murphy's, Carvell was a retail leasing specialist at Norris & Stevens Inc. in Portland, Ore.; a customer service representative for Portland-based Norwest Financial, and a personal lines operations executive with Safeco Insurance in Lake Oswego, Ore.
MANUFACTURING
Ralph L. Pinkert was hired as senior vice president of MSA ScrapSite, a subsidiary of MSA Pittsburgh. Pinkert will assist in the development and marketing of ScrapSite and its sister company, MSA MetalSite. Pinkert is a 30-year industry veteran who began with Scrap Corp. of America and later served as president of other Chicago-area scrap/recycling companies including Scrap Management Corp., Raw Materials Inc. and City Centre Scrap Inc.
BANKING/FINANCE
Smithfield Trust Co. of Pittsburgh hired Thomas R. Kopf as a trust officer.
ACCOUNTING
Alpern Rosenthal & Co. hired Eric Valchar as a tax manager. He has 12 years' experience in corporate, partnership and individual tax services. He is a graduate of Robert Morris University and the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business.
Stokes & Hinds appointed Ronald J. Scanlon director of services to financial institutions. Richard J. Tice , who is director of business valuations and litigation consulting, will also direct the firm's entrepreneurial services. In addition, Michael D. Sulkoske was elected director of tax & advisory services.
LEGAL
Robert W. Pritchard was elected a shareholder at Littler Mendelson. Pritchard counsels employers regarding a variety of employment practices and employment law including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Meyer Unkovic & Scott elected Frederick J. Francis and Kevin F. McKeegan to the firm's management committee. Robert Mauro , who also sits on the committee, was re-elected managing partner. Francis is co-chair of the firm's business litigation section, and McKeegan, who is a partner at the firm, serves as chairman of the real estate and banking section. Mauro was chosen as managing partner for the 12th consecutive year.
ADVERTISING/PR
Marc USA/Pittsburgh hired Diane Lavelle as management supervisor, Kelly McCann as an account executive and Jennifer Singer as an assistant media planner. Lavelle was a management supervisor with Temerlin McClain Advertising in Dallas. McCann was an intern with NFL Players Inc. in Washington, and Singer was a media planner for Allen & Gerritsen in Boston.
HEALTH CARE
Antonio J. Ripepi, certified in general surgery and one who specializes in minimally invasive surgery, joined the medical staff at Monongahela Valley Hospital and Regional Cancer Center. Ripepi received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed an internship and residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in addition to a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Cleveland Clinic Hospital.
TECHNOLOGY
Pittsburgh-based Blue Archer named Rodney Thompson director of business development. Thompson has seven years' business development and sales experience in the information technology industry. He is a 1991 graduate of Mercyhurst College.
OTHER
Sprint hired in its Pittsburgh office Scott Close and Greg DiLello as indirect account executives. Close held posts with Orbit-Tech Communications, RadioShack Corp., J&J Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac & Ford, in addition to Sun Television & Appliance. DiLello worked with Direct Communications, Echostar and Rex TV. He is an Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate.
The Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau named Linda Mauzy group marketing manager and Ann Locklin-Mathias communications manager. Mauzy most recently worked as sales manager at the Ramada Inn Historic Ligonier. Before that, she spent more than 17 years at the Mountain Playhouse Theatre in Jennerstown, where she handled group sales. Locklin-Mathias joined the bureau staff in 1999 as group marketing manager. Before joining the bureau, she worked in management at The Disney Store.
Babb Inc. hired Thomas M. Eisaman as senior account manager, employee benefits. Eisaman most recently worked at HealthAmerica as an established business representative and sales representative. Donna M. Breuiner was named president of Babb Absence Management Services where she will handle claims administration, client retention and new business development for alternative funding of workers' compensation insurance on Pennsylvania corporations.
Robert Morris University in Moon Township hired Mona Dine as director of career services. Dine held the same title at Carnegie Mellon University's H.J. Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management. The school also hired Tracy Gorrell as a counselor on the student affairs staff and Teraya White as area coordinator in residence life. Gorrell is an adjunct faculty member in the communication skills program at Robert Morris. White taught several university summer programs to adults and adolescents at Penn State, Johns Hopkins and Michigan universities and the University of Pittsburgh.
Chris F. Kemerer , a professor at the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business, was named editor-in-chief of Information Systems Research, a journal published by the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences.
Lawrence E. Bandi , president and chief executive officer of Wheeling, W.Va.-based Valley National Gases Inc., will retire in April after 28 years with the company.
