A plane with 55 people aboard crashed Saturday shortly after takeoff near Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea. The Antonov plane, owned by Equatair, took off in mid-morning, but soon disappeared on radar screens, reported Xinhua, China's main government-run news agency. A government official said the Russian-made plane crashed near Baney about 10 miles from Malabo. All 55 people aboard were feared dead, according to reports. The plane was en route from Malabo on Bioko to Bata on the mainland. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
