Local player reaches final table at WSOP event
Former University of Pittsburgh basketball player Griffin Abel made the final table of a $2,500 No-Limit Hold 'Em tournament at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Griffin, of Pittsburgh, finished sixth in Event 29, getting $76,506. The tournament had 1,086 entries.
Abel finished in the money at two other events. He was paid $4,509 for finishing 140th in Event 27, six-handed No-Limit Hold 'Em with a $3,000 buy-in and 959 entries, and he got $3,124 for placing 543rd in Event 47, No Limit Hold 'Em Monster Stack with a $1,500 buy-in and 6,716 entries. Griffin played basketball for the Panthers from 1998-2001.
