Ski trip Connellsville Ski Club will hold a ski trip to Seven Springs Resort on Sunday with skiing from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Registration at Video Snacks until 8 p.m. Saturday, call 724-626-9999. 35/Service Softball The 35 and Over/Service Softball League is looking for as many as three new teams for the upcoming season. Teams can consist of players who will be 34 years old by Dec. 31. Each team can also have three players who will be 30 years old by May 1. A team can also be a service team such as police or ambulance. Players of any age affiliated with that service or others who turn 34 by Dec. 31 may compete. Golf The Frosty Open will be held on Saturday at Pleasant Valley Country Club. The non-traditional 18-hole event will be a scramble format and is $60 per person. Proceeds benefit the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, the Children’s Miracle Network and the Entrepreneurship classes at Southmoreland High School. Players with all levels of skills are welcome. Connellsville Little League The Connellsville Little League will hold sign-ups at the major field on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign-ups will also be held for the Tri-Town Area at the Vanderbilt Borough Building on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This area includes Franklin Township, Vanderbilt Borough, Dawson, Lower Tyrone Township and some Dunbar Township players. Anyone who played for Schmitz Tire last season should sign up at the major field. The league is open to children ages 5 to 12. Registration is $25 for the first child, and $15 for the second child. Registration for the third child is free. Every player must have proof of age. St. Rita’s banquets St. Rita’s Youth Basketball League will hold its annual basketball banquets on March 22 and 29, at Connellsville High School. A banquet for kindergarten and first-grade boys, second- and third-grade boys, second- and third-grade girls, and fourth- and fifth-grade girls team members will be held on March 22. A banquet for players in the preschool boys; fourth- and fifth-grade boys; sixth- and seventh-grade boys; preschool, kindergarten and first-grade girls; and sixth- and seventh-grade girls age brackets will be held on March 29. Tickets for the banquets may be purchased from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Junior High East and from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays at Junior High West. Adult tickets cost $7. Tickets for children ages 5 to 11 are $5, and children ages 4 and younger are admitted free. The last day to purchase tickets for the March 22 banquet is March 14, and the last day to purchase tickets for the March 29 banquet is March 21. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the program will begin promptly at 6 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door. Connellsville Girls Softball League Registration for the Connellsville Girls Softball League will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the American Legion in Trotter. Registration fee is $25 for the first child and $15 for the second. Registration for the third child is free. Girls must be between the ages of 5 and 19 by Aug. 31, 2003, in order to be eligible. Players will be divided into one of three age divisions: instructional, junior or senior. New players must provide proof of age, and parents must attend the registration in order to sign permission slips. Practice will begin the first week of April. Opening day for the league, which now plays at the American Legion field in Trotter, is tentatively set for May 17. SC Rod and Gun The South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club will hold free state-mandated hunter/trapper safety classes from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 4, and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 5. Classes are limited to the first 50 registrants. All first-time hunters who will be 12 years old by June 30, 2003, are eligible to attend. Teener League The Connellsville Teener League will hold registration on Sunday and March 16 and 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Teener League concession stand. The league is open to players ages 15 to 17. Bullskin Township Little League The Bullskin Township Little League will hold sign-ups on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the supervisors’ building. This includes baseball, girls softball and T-ball. All players must present a birth certificate. The cost for one child is $25. A second child is $15, and registration for the third child is free. Dunbar Little League The Dunbar Little League will hold sign-ups on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dunbar Fire Hall. Sign-ups will also be held at the Mill Run Fire Hall on the same dates from noon to 2 p.m. Sign-ups are for children ages 5 to 12. The cost is $25 for the first child, $15 for the second child and $10 for the third child. All new players must present a birth certificate. Connellsville Pony League The Connellsville Pony League will hold sign-ups from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and March 15 and 22 at the Pony field concession stand in Trotter. Registration is $25. Southmoreland Rec League The Southmoreland Rec League will be holding baseball sign-ups for kids ages 5 to 16 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Huntingdon Township VFD substation in Alverton. A sign-up will also be held on March 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Scottdale Elementary. The cost is $30 for the first child, $25 for the second child and $20 for each additional child. There will also be a $10 refundable concession fee. The league would like to urge any 13- and 14-year-olds who wish to sign-up to play on the Pony team to do so as soon as possible.
