Playwright Cori Thomas, whose play "When January Feels Like Summer" had its world premiere at City Theatre in March 2010 has won the 2011 M. Elizabeth Osborn New Play Award for an emerging playwright.

The Osborn Award recognizes Thomas' play, which had a developmental reading at City Theatre as part of the 2007 Momentum Festival and was further developed in part at the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in 2008 in Utah.

Established in 1993, the Osborn Award recognizes the work of an author who has not yet achieved national stature, had a significant New York production nor been staged widely in regional theaters. It carries a $1,000 prize, funded by the Foundation of the American Theatre Critics Association

Previous winners included Rebecca Gilman and Keith Glover.
