PLCB hack job

Once again we had the usual hack job on the PLCB state store system at election time ("Privatization of state stores is a hard sell," Aug. 19).

We all know private business always does it better - witness the Mellon Bank-IRS debacle. We all know clerks get $40,000 a year to do nothing but ring up sales, and we all know how John and Jane Yuppie out there in Sprawlmore Township can't get a good bottle of Beaujolais to go with sushi at 3 a.m. on a Sunday. It brings tears to my eyes.

The fact is, privatization is and always will be about money. The supermarket chains will always be pushing for it and financing politicians who would vote for it. Ditto for newspapers that have been licking their chops for 70 years regarding advertising revenue.

By the way, if the stores are ever privatized, who would the politicians turn to for campaign funds/kickbacks• Pennsylvania will then have achieved what other states only dream of - sky-high taxes, all McWage jobs and liquor sales 24/7.

Better build more superhighways, PennDOT. I can hear the multitudes coming now.
