The Plum varsity boys and girls bowling teams returned to action after a two-week holiday break, and both improved to 4-0 in Section 3 after 7-0 victories over Valley.

The Plum boys shot the highest team game in the section this season (1,083) and had the highest series (3,005). The previous high series, 2,995, was shot by the Mustangs in their match on Dec. 17.

Franklin Mecurio led the team with a 734 series and a 289 game, both section highs this season.

In the 289 game, and in a game score of 255, he had strikes in the first eight frames both times.

Dom DelVecchio and Jackson Rogers bowled all three games on varsity and had a 589 and 573 series, respectively.

Jake and Josh Christman, head coach Jerry Yushinski said, bowled two strong games on varsity. Tyler Vaill contributed a 233 during the third varsity team game after two productive games on JV.

Josh Mallik had a 161 game.

“The boys keep getting better,” Yushinski said.

On the girls side, Talia Pilyih led the way with a 614 series and a 226 game.

Allie Dick and Sarah Kirkpatrick also bowled all three games for varsity. Dick had a 544 series with a top game of 194, while Kirkpatrick had a 534 series with a best game of 216 in the third team game.

Kristen Ankers (141-160), Megan Christman (168-138) and Bethany LaBertew (178-151) also contributed to Plum’s final three-game team score of 2,628

“I like where the team is and what their potential is,” Plum girls head coach Cliff Kirchartz said. “There are still some small things they can improve on such as spares and accuracy.”

Valley doesn’t have a girls team, but Kirchartz said his team still was focused.

Plum tried to stay undefeated Wednesday against St. Joseph at Nesbit’s Lanes. The matches were to be contested past the deadline for this week’s edition.

The Mustangs also will bowl at Nesbit’s next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Woodland Hills.
