A 2-year-old boy was put in protective custody after his father was charged with drunken driving while the child was in the car unrestrained, police said.

Reginald Collins 45, of Carnegie, was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday night after police stopped him for allegedly speeding.

State police in Beaver County said Collins was going 83 mph in a 65 mph zone in Hopewell, driving without a license and did not secure his son in a child car seat.

Collins was arraigned and placed in the Beaver County jail. His son was placed in the custody of child welfare authorities, pending the mother’s arrival from Ohio.
