Two would-be teenage muggers are facing charges, thanks, in part, to a police dog's keen sense of smell. The boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested at about 1 a.m. Sunday in Uniontown. The incident began in a parking area behind Dimarco's Bistro and Cantina, a bar and restaurant along Morgantown Street. Police say two state troopers patrolling the city spotted the two youths kicking and punching a man identified as Brian Dale Miller, of Baltimore. It was later determined that they were trying to rob Miller as he left the bar. A foot chase ensued as the troopers approached. Fayette County 911 dispatched the city police to assist. The older boy was being taken into custody several blocks away, near the Highland House Hotel, as Uniontown Officer Mike Garrow and his Dutch shepherd, Sheiko, arrived to help. According to a report filed at the city police station, the state police said the younger boy had run toward an auto repair shop on North Arch Street. But when Garrow commanded Sheiko to track the suspect, the dog led the officer back along Main Street. Sheiko reportedly began barking at some nearby bushes that the 15-year-old was using for cover. Police then arrested the boy. Charges against both teenagers have been filed through the Fayette County Juvenile Probation Office.
