Uniontown police and the district attorney's office are investigating a report of missing money at the county's tax claim office, according to Fayette County Detective James Caccimelio and city police Chief Jason Cox.

Cox said police are treating the missing cash as a theft investigation.

Neither Caccimelio nor Cox would reveal how much cash is missing,

Sarah Minnick, the tax claim bureau director, confirmed the investigation, but she referred all questions to police.

County Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink said as soon as Minnick noticed the discrepancy, she notified commissioners and the offices of the district attorney, the controller and human resources.
