In contrast to some of the other articles I see on triblive.com, the sole purpose of the "Sunday Pops" column Jan. 2 appears to be endorsement of the practice of far-right bile-spewing without any supportive reasoning.
The Scottish national health system is "broken," you say. So instead of fixing it and ensuring universal health care, let's praise profiteering from sickness (which has worked so well in the United States)?
The government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has now survived a strike by the oil bosses, a military coup and a referendum that was internationally recognized as fair. However, compared to the U.S. president, who was elected by just over 20 percent of the U.S. population, Chavez is obviously not supported by a substantial majority of fellow countrymen, but a "dictator"?
I could advise the author of "Sunday Pops" to reacquaint himself with the purpose of Orwell's "Ministry of Truth," which he did not intend to be used as a positive example. On second thought, perhaps "Sunday Pops" is a clever satire and should not be taken at face value.
