Port Authority bus riders get no help from Google

Port Authority riders trying to plan transit trips on Google Maps saw nothing but error messages yesterday, just as the authority changed nearly 60 bus and light-rail routes.

Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said officials sent schedule data to Google “weeks ago” for the routes being cut, extended, rerouted or renamed as part of an effort to improve efficiency, but attempts to get directions via Google Transit after the start of service yesterday yielded messages saying the data weren’t available. Google representatives couldn’t be reached for comment.

Ritchie said the trip planner at www.portauthority.org is working and reflects the new schedules. Internet-capable mobile phones can load a small-screen, stripped-down version of the planner at www.clicknathan.com/bus.
