Port Authority chief still on list for jobs in Jacksonville, Atlanta
Port Authority of Allegheny County CEO Steve Bland is the only remaining finalist for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s top post who has a public transit job, the Florida agency said.
The Florida agency’s selection committee on Thursday narrowed its field of candidates from five to three. Other finalists include the former executive director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation agency and the former general manager of the New Orleans Transit Authority.
Jacksonville Transportation Authority spokesman John Finotti said the agency’s full seven-member board will meet sometime in mid-October to publicly interview the finalists and make its selection. A date has not been set.
Bland also is one of two finalists for the top job at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, known as MARTA, along with the president and CEO of VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio. A spokesman said no timetable has been set to select a new leader.
Since news surfaced of his candidacy for the Jacksonville job, Bland has said that executive search firms approached him about the other opportunities and asked him to submit applications for the openings.
“I by no means consider my job (in Pittsburgh) finished,” Bland said late last month.
He could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
