A Portuguese court decided Wednesday to extradite bombing suspect Abu Salem to India where he is wanted in several 1993 explosions.

The blasts in Bombay killed 257 people.

The constitutional court's ruling following months of wrangling by Salem to avoid extraction. The Supreme Court of Portugal had already given the go-ahead for his extradition months ago.

India also reportedly gave assurances to Portugal that Salem would not receive the death penalty if found guilty, Diario de Noticias reported.

He is also wanted on murder and kidnapping charges and is currently serving a four-and-half year sentence for carrying forged identification papers.
