Britain's Prince Charles nibbled at some Australian indigenous wildlife Wednesday but disappointed his hosts by refusing to eat a live grub.
Touring the Alice Springs Desert Park in 104-degree temperatures, the prince was shown such desert edibles as witchetty grubs, honey ants, bush tomatoes and acia seeds. Charles tasted a bush banana and bush tomato but looked at the grub and said, "There are limits."
He also visited an outdoor "dunny," slang for a toilet, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. He inspected it to shouts of "don't be shy" and "don't forget to flush" from the Australian media.
Charles last visited Alice Springs with Princess Diana and their then-infant son, William, in 1983.
Earlier, Charles flew over Uluru, formerly known as Ayers Rock, and the Northern Territory's red desert before landing in Alice Springs where he was given a traditional welcome by six bare-breasted aboriginal women from the Arrente tribe, who danced for him.
The prince then set out for Melbourne on the second day of a five-day, five-city tour.
