PriorityCare plans medication review

Allegheny Valley Hospital PriorityCare program will host a "Brown Bag Pharmacy" medication review from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Charles W. Young Conference Center at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison.

Bring all of your medications and supplements for a review by Dr. Kendra Perka, a pharmacist on staff at Allegheny Valley Hospital. She will go over your medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter.

To make an appointment, call the PriorityCare office at 724-226-7339. The program is free and open to the public.

Programs offered at Mills mall

Programs at Allegheny Valley Hospital Destination Wellness at Pittsburgh Mills include:

Highmark Discover Relaxation Within I series will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 25 through Nov. 15. The series is designed to help participants acquire comprehensive knowledge and optimal benefits of various stress management practices and techniques. There is no fee for Highmark members to participate; there is a nominal fee for non-Highmark members. Call 724-274-5202 to register.

Alzheimer's Support Group will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26. The support group provides caregivers with valuable information when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease.

Highmark Senior Products informational seminar will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29 offering a variety of health plans to help you find the right plan to fit your needs. Call 724-274-5202.

Seminar looks at whole foods

Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation is presenting the Fifth Annual Fast, Fresh and Local Whole Foods Seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2 in the William and Grayce Walker Conference Room at Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation, Charles and Mary Lou Young Non-Profit Center, 1 Acee Drive, Natrona Heights.

Susan Schmidt, a trained presenter from the Institute for Responsible Technology, will discuss "Health Risks of Genetically Modified Foods."

Other speakers include Bill Kopar of Kopar Honey Farm and Ken Leah of Ken's Breads.

The seminar is funded through the Dr. H.W. Fraley Health and Wellness Fund and is free and open to the public. Registration is requested. For information, call 724-294-3157.

Butler group sets perioperative symposium

The Continuing Medical Education Committee of Butler Health System will present a symposium highlighting perioperative care from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Nov. 5 at Findley Auditorium, Tower Entrance, Butler Memorial Hospital.

The symposium is open to all physicians, nurses and other clinical health care providers with an interest in perioperative care.

Prior to Friday, there is no fee. A $25 registration fee will apply after Friday. There will be a continental breakfast, buffet lunch and educational materials available. Reservations are required. For more information or to register by phone, call the medical staff office at 724-284-4516.
