Problems on Tuesday in calling 911 in Armstrong and Westmoreland counties from the Leechburg area were resolved about 4:30 p.m.

A Westmoreland County 911 supervisor said Hyde Park, West Leechburg and Allegheny Township residents with 842 or 845 telephone exchanges had problems with the Kittanning-based Windstream Communications.

No one from the company was available for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Leechburg police said there were problems almost all day.

“We had problems calling 911, and when they called us, we couldn't hear it,” said police Chief Mike Diebold.

He said several people who contacted police said they tried to get through on their phones but couldn't.

Police and others had to rely on cellphones.

An Armstrong County 911 dispatch supervisor said all landline telephones in Leechburg were impacted. He couldn't estimate how many people were without service there.

The Westmoreland County 911 supervisor didn't know how many customers were involved.
