Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority announced Wednesday it was awarded a $5 million low-interest state loan for improvement projects.
PWSA said it will use the money to pay for government-mandated work to keep raw sewage from entering waterways during heavy rains.
About $3 million will go to install dedicated storm sewers in Pittsburgh's southern neighborhoods. The rest will pay for a dedicated storm sewer on Centre Avenue, designed to handle anticipated flows from Hill District redevelopment projects.
PWSA has more than 300,000 customers in the city and surrounding area.
