Kaylin Chain is a junior kicker for Mt. Pleasant (1-3 overall, 1-1 in the Keystone Conference) and is also a standout for the Lady Vikings' soccer team.
Q: What made you want to play football?
A: The kicker who actually kicks (Justin Farrell), the one that kicks off, used to kick at Connellsville before he came to Mt. Pleasant and he taught me how to kick. When we grew up, we played soccer together and I was kicking here with him one day and the coaches saw me and asked me to kick.
Q: Which do you like more, soccer or football?
A: I don't know. Soccer, I played all my life, I've been playing since I was 2, but football is just a completely different atmosphere playing with all boys. It's a lot of fun, though. I don't think I could pick between both of them.
Q: What's the difference between boy athletes and girl athletes?
A: In soccer it's serious, but the level of competitiveness is so much more with boys it's amazing. I enjoy it, though.
Q: What do you like to do for fun when you're not playing soccer and football?
A: I'm really busy, actually. I run track, I snowboard and I'll probably kickbox this winter. I basically play a lot of sports and, when I get time, I hang out with my friends.
Q: Does that give you something of a tomboy image?
A: Yeah. All the football players just say I'm one of the guys, but they don't treat me like a girl. I'm part of the team.
Q: I also heard you like to fix cars?
A: I got a car and I helped my dad fix it. It's a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. They're nice cars. My mom has a Spyder and they just got that for me and we're fixing it up. I helped him put the muffler on and we're putting a sound system in, my brothers and I.
Q: Which would you rather do in college -- play football or soccer?
A: I think I'll go further with soccer because I've been doing it so long. I've played for other teams than just the high school and I think I have a better chance of going Division I and getting scholarships, but football's fine while I'm doing it.
