Administration changes continue at Quaker Valley as district leaders split and reassign the duties of one administrator and advertise to hire a buildings and grounds supervisor.

The moves will mean nearly all of the more than 20 administration positions have changed since July 2014 when Heidi Ondek became superintendent. She replaced Joseph Clapper, who retired. The district's most recent departures include John Sheline — longtime finance director who left in January — and Karlton Chapman — the longtime technology director who retired in November.

Joseph Marrone, who serves as administrative services director, will oversee technology. It is among a number of areas for which Marrone is responsible. Marrone was technology director for Quaker Valley in the late 1990s through early 2000s.

But Marrone no longer will be responsible for buildings and grounds supervision, Assistant Superintendent Andrew Surloff said. Marrone's $147,000 salary will not change. The district will hire to oversee buildings and grounds, he said.

When Marrone moved to administrative services director he was involved with technology with Chapman.

“Karlton was wonderful. We're all sorry to see him retire. So now we're just taking the next step and moving on,” Marrone said.

Marrone said he is working on building a new technology plan. He said the district used to have a “technology think tank” — something he wants to start again.

“We're going to rebuild our technology vision,” he said.

In addition to technology, Marrone will continue to oversee the larger aspects of facilities, such as construction and major capital projects.

“I still keep some of my other duties as we're looking toward a new high school, working toward whatever we're going to do there — renovate, or whatever we're going to do there with that building,” Marrone said.

In a job listing for buildings and grounds supervisor, which was posted Jan. 5, according to job website LiveCareer.com, administrators are seeking an individual with at least three years of facilities management experience and at least five years working with large facilities.

A Monster.com job listing advertises the starting salary at $60,000.

District spokeswoman Angela Yingling said interviews are under way. She was not sure when the district would consider filling the position.

The building and grounds supervisor also will oversee safety duties such as workman's compensation. Additional safety duties Marrone previously managed, such as school safety plans, will be transferred to the school resource Officer Aaron Vanatta.
