NEW KENSINGTON -- Valley came into the season looking for a quarterback. The Vikings entered Week 9 with a similar dilemma.
Valley coach Troy Hill has been experimenting with quarterbacks this week as he prepares his Vikings (6-2, 5-2) to host arch-rival Burrell (4-4, 4-3) Friday night in a game that will decide the final playoff spot in the Class AA Allegheny Conference.
"It's an ongoing thing," Hill said. "We've got everyone back there. We're trying to get something going at quarterback."
Last week, Hill started junior Garrett Sekanick in place of senior Jorel Burrell, who started seven games before the Vikings' game at Northgate.
But Sekanick, who injured his shoulder in the Carrick game two weeks ago, missed some practice time this week, causing the QB carousel to turn again.
"He would be the guy; he would be the starter," Hill said. "But we have to try some other guys. We're looking at Jorel, Scotty Saunders, Madison Harvey, and we have Pet Petit, too.
"Maybe we'll use Toney Clemons there -- who knows?"
Harvey hasn't played quarterback since his freshman year. He is one of Valley's go-to receivers opposite Clemons.
"When you play Burrell, for a playoff spot, you throw everything out of the bag," Harvey said.
Saunders has seen limited time under center this season.
"You hate to take good receivers away, but we want to be able to run the ball and make things happen," Hill said.
Burrell has completed 37 of 82 passes for 745 yards and five touchdowns.
For Valley seniors, Friday will mark their final home game. It just so happens to be Senior Night.
"It's our last time out in front of our home fans," Harvey said. "We don't want to disappoint them. I don't care what position I play. I just want to win."
"I want to go out with a bang," Clemons said. "It's nice to know there's significance with this game."
