Quebec City has announced its intention to build a new arena in the hopes of bringing back an NHL team and one day hosting the Winter Olympics. Mayor Regis Labeaume said Friday that he's hired engineering firm SNC Lavalin to conduct a feasibility study. He hopes to see the arena built from 2010-12. Labeaume expects the arena to cost $400 million, with the city contributing $50 million to the project. He wants the federal and provincial governments to each pony up $175 million under infrastructure programs.

• Marian Hossa, who signed a 12-year, $62.8 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks during the offseason, skated for the first time yesterday since undergoing surgery on his shoulder in July. Hossa, who had 40 goals last season for the Detroit Red Wings before joining Chicago as a free agent, skated at an ice arena near the United Center.

• Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jan Hejda, who is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained left knee, has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 13. The Czech veteran has one assist in five games this season. The Blue Jackets host the Los Angeles Kings today.

• Red Wings forward Johan Franzen has undergone successful surgery to repair a ligament in his left knee. The team said Franzen is expected to miss at least four months because of the injury sustained Oct. 8 during Detroit's 3-2 victory over Chicago, in which he scored the game-winning goal. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock also said Pavel Datsyuk will sit out today's game against Colorado with an upper-body injury.

• The Dallas Stars have placed center Steve Ott on injured reserve with a rib cage muscle injury.
