Questions to ponder:
Can you cry underwater?
They say God had a purpose in everything he made. You look at mosquitoes and say, "Are you sure?"
Why can you "put your two cents in" but it's only worth "a penny for your thoughts." Where does the extra penny go⢠Taxes?
Why do people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up every two hours?
How come we choose from two people for president of the United States, and 50 for Miss America?
For that matter, how come we make Miss America pass a talent competition, but not the president of the United States?
Why do people pay money to go up in tall buildings and use binoculars to look at things on the ground?
How come opportunity knocks but once, but temptation always tries to kick the door down?
Why do brain cells die, but fat cells live forever?
How did we manage to put a man on the moon before we figured out it was a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why are you "in" a movie, but "on" TV?
How important do you have to be before you're considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Ain't it the truth: he who anger you, controls you.
If a deaf person goes to court, is it still a hearing?
Isn't it true, some people want the front of the bus, the middle of the road and the back of the church?
Doesn't it make you shake your head--some people's minds are like concrete--all mixed up but permanently set.
We have long wondered why hot dog buns come eight to a pack and hot dogs 10 to a pack. So why is bread square and lunch meat round?
Why does a doctor leave the room when you undress⢠He's going to see you naked anyway.
Why do they tell you to wear loose-fitting clothes to exercise⢠If your clothes were loose-fitting you wouldn't need to exercise.
Wyizzit: many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors.
Wouldn't it be nice if, each time we screw up our lives, we could just hit control alt delete and start over?
How come I can't think of enough of these things to reach the bottom of the column?
IN OTHER NEWS
Plus We have some news and notes to share:
A tip of the hat to Jack Loucks of Blairsville, who marked 30 years as a letter carrier including the last 22 on the same route in Blairsville. He was also awarded the Million Mile plaque and jacket in honor of his safe driving record. Loucks, a long-time resident of Blairsville, joined the Postal Service in October 1973.
Several generations of girl scouts enjoyed summer fun at Camp Henry Kaufmann near Bolivar in Fairfield Township, but no more. The camp held a farewell party and campfire at the end of February. A buyer is being sought. A Girl Scout camp at Rector at the other end of the Ligonier Valley will remain open.
Operation Christmas Child has taken off like Santa's sleigh in this area. A note from coordinator Karen Wolfe of Indiana said the local drive filled 10,516 shoeboxes with presents for overseas children...IUP's Miller Stadium will get a new artificial turf field this summer at a cost of $360,000, replacing a surface laid in 1995. They say the stadium is used on a 24/7 basis....But nobody seems to be outraged by the money being squandered by the state university system to pay three presidents at once--one who retired, who who was apparently asked to leave after a few months on the job and one brought in to be interim president. Since IUP is state-owned, those are your tax dollars being flushed, folks. I hate to see local kids being squeezed for ever-soaring tuition costs and being forced ever-deeper into debt to acquire a college education.
Mark Betig, general manager of WCCS, Homer City, and WLCY, Blairsville, told me Renda Broadcasting officially takes over operation of Indiana's two commercial radio stations, WDAD and WQMU, on Monday...Indiana's low-power Christian radio station had to give up use of the "Fish" name because it was already trademarked.
