WEST DEER-- Township police arrested a Quigley Road man early Thursday morning after a five-hour standoff in the basement of his home.

James Janssen, age unknown, faces charges of making terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.

Thursday morning, police said he had been taken to a medical facility for evaluation, but would not elaborate on what that meant. It was unclear Thursday afternoon if Janssen remained in a medical facility, was in jail, or had been released from custody.

The incident began about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when police received a call about a man threatening a woman with a gun at a Quigley Road home.

Police arrived to find the woman on the porch. She told police Janssen was inside.

Police said that when they searched the home for Janssen, they heard the sound of a gun being loaded.

Officers then allegedly discovered Janssen had barricaded himself in a section of the basement.

Township police called the Allegheny County SWAT team and hostage team to help.

Hostage negotiators spoke with Janssen at great length, police said.

They said he agreed to surrender shortly after 4:30 a.m.

No one was reported injured.

Several people gathered in the driveway of the Janssen home Thursday afternoon refused to speak with reporters. They said the family would have no comment.
