While some of our illustrious student-athletes are undecided about their college majors and future course of life, Rachael Hughes has her goals firmly set.
She intends to major in pharmacy at California U and make her way professionally as a pharmacist.
She played softball and basketball at Frazier High School, and knows she wants to play softball in college.
A standout in softball and basketball, she says softball's her game.
"I feel I'm better at softball," she said. "I like the game more."
Good enough reasons.
She has played every position in softball but most enjoys shortstop and pitching.
She was no slouch in basketball, either.
Not with an average of 17 points a game.
In basketball, she was chosen all-county as a junior and was named to four all-tournament teams.
In softball, she made all-county as a sophomore and junior. She was captain this year.
She is exceptional in the classroom, too, maintaining a GPA of 3.8.
Asked what stands out above all else in her respective sports, Hughes said: "In basketball, winning two Frazier tournaments in a row. In softball, hitting three homers in my sophomore season."
