I was born in Western Pennsylvania (Westmoreland County) and most of my family lives there.

My family were coal miners, farmers and steelworkers, and veterans of World War I, II, Korea and Vietnam. We have always loved and served our family, friends, community and country.

My identity and beliefs in life were forged in the hills of Western Pennsylvania long ago. When I heard Congressman John Murtha of Johnstown call my kin “racists” and “rednecks,” I was outraged.

What arrogance for him to call the people he “represents” racist because they may not want to vote for Barrack Obama or equate being a “redneck” with racists.

His statements, along with his statements about Marines in Iraq, place all Pennsylvanians in such a bad light. He has obviously been in Washington too long and has lost touch with his district.

Murtha is a symbol of all that is wrong with Washington — narcissistic fat cats who seek only to advance themselves over anyone else and have nothing but contempt for average Americans.

My hope is the people of his district will vote him out.
