Rainy weather Wednesday forced the WPIAL to postpone all baseball and softball playoff games until today.
Plum and Kiski Area were set to play Class AAA first-round baseball games. Those games also were rained out Tuesday.
Plum was supposed to play Seneca Valley at North Allegheny but the game has been moved to 4 p.m. today at Pullman Park in Butler.
Kiski Area and Upper St. Clair will play at 3 p.m. today at South Fayette High School. The game originally was set for Wednesday in Robinson Township.
Plum and Kiski Area, which also had preliminary round games rained out Saturday, are the only local teams remaining.
Thursday was supposed to be the start of the second round.
Baseball teams might wind up playing consecutive games if bad weather continues. The semifinals are set to begin Monday, but a rain date already is in place for May 27. The finals are May 29 at Falconi Field in Washington.
In softball, where there aren't neutral sites in the first round, Baldwin will play at Fox Chapel, and Kiski Area will visit Ambridge today. Both Class AAA first-round games will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Three other local games -- Belle Vernon Area at Valley (Class AA), Kittanning at Greensburg Central Catholic (AA) and Bentworth at Leechburg (A) -- all will be played today as scheduled. They also will start at 3:30.
Softball quarterfinals are set to begin Monday, with the semifinals May 27 and the finals June 2.
Wednesday's rain-outs make for a packed Thursday for A-K Valley schools. In addition to two baseball and five softball games, the WPIAL Class AAA track and field championships will be held at 2 p.m. at Baldwin High School.
The Deer Lakes boys' volleyball team will play a second-round playoff match against Pittsburgh Central Catholic at 7 p.m. at Plum.
With rain and lightning this week, boys volleyball has been the only sure thing.
Reports say more rain and storms are a possibility today, mainly later in the day.
