Ralph Edwards, host of "This Is Your Life" and "Truth or Consequences" has died in Los Angeles at age 92.
Publicist Justin Seremet told KABC-TV, Los Angeles, Edwards died Wednesday of heart of failure.
Edwards started "Truth or Consequences" on radio in 1940 and it became NBC's first commercial TV program in 1941. The pioneering show disappeared five months later when TV's progress was disrupted by World War II, but it continued on radio and popped back onto TV in 1950, KABC said.
"This Is Your Life" also started on radio then moved to TV, running on NBC from 1952 to 1961. In addition, Edwards produced and created a host of TV shows including "Name That Tune," "Cross Wits," "Superior Court," "It Could Be You," "Wide Country" and in the 1980s, "The People's Court."
Edwards also appeared in several Hollywood movies including "Seven Days Leave," "Radio Stars on Parade," "Bamboo Blonde," "Beat the Band," "I'll Cry Tomorrow," "Manhattan Merry-Go-Round" and "Radio Stars of 1937."
He was married 53 years to his wife, Barbara, who died in 1993.
Edwards is survived by a son and two daughters.
