Rapper Snoop Dogg led a peaceful rally outside California's San Quentin Prison against the scheduled execution of Stanley Tookie Williams. More than 1,000 people attended Saturday's event, which police described as the largest ever against an execution at San Quentin, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. Williams -- the founder of the notorious Crips gang -- has been nominated for the Nobel Prize for his behind-bars campaign against streetgangs. Jamie Foxx portrayed him in the TV movie, "Redemption." His execution for the murders of four people in Los Angeles is scheduled Dec. 13. Supporters -- including many in Hollywood -- want Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to commute Williams' sentence to life in prison without parole, the Times said. The governor has said he has not yet decided what action to take. Snoop Dogg, an admitted Crips gang member, told the rally he was inspired by Williams to spread his message of anti-violence. The rapper said he intends to represent the Crips "in a positive manner." © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
