I am writing to the voters of Westmoreland County concerning the election for prothonotary in November.

For the last four years, I have had the opportunity to work with Christina O’Brien in my capacity as past president and legislative chairman of the Pennsylvania State Association of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts. Christina has been an active participant in our association, attending business meetings and our continuing education sessions and has been involved in discussions with other prothonotaries on improving the operation of her office.

This has allowed her to keep abreast of the changes in rules of civil procedure and laws relating to her office. At our annual conference in July, her fellow officeholders honored Christina by electing her to a seat on the association’s executive committee.

Christina has made a number of changes to improve her office, such as extended hours of operation, better passport services, allowing citizens to make payments with credit cards and protecting the privacy of sensitive Family Court documents. She also implemented e-filing, which could save taxpayers almost $150,000 per year.

Christina O’Brien has the knowledge and experience to be the prothonotary and doesn’t need on-the-job training.

The choice for Westmoreland voters is clear. Christina O’Brien has earned your vote and another four years as prothonotary.

Stephen M. Lukach Jr.

The writer is the Schuylkill County clerk of courts.
