Real estate notes: Expansion of Indiana hospital underway
â¢ A three-year $55 million expansion at Indiana Regional Medical Center in White Township in Indiana County, is under way, along with a $5 million capital campaign to defray costs.
The expansion — called the Centennial Building Project in celebration of the hospital’s 100th anniversary — will add to the hospital’s 164 beds on the 50-acre campus. Six operating room suites, an Intensive Care Unit, a post anesthesia care unit, a 15-bed post acute care unit, an endoscopy unit and a linear accelerator will be added.
There will be numerous structural and patient-service upgrades to the facility. About 45,000 square feet of the existing facility will be renovated, and about 40,000 square feet of space will be added.
The hospital, which has 1,300 employees, plans a $35 million bond issue and will use $15 million from its savings. Lead contributors thus far are First Commonwealth Bank, the Kovalchick family, the Reschini Group, Rosebud Mining Co. and S&T Bank.
”This project will propel us forward into our next century of service,” said Steve Wolfe, the center’s CEO.
â¢ A housing development is being planned for Homestead, following the approval of the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County to sell four parcels where the former Half Brothers building stood along East Eighth and Ninth avenues and Amity Street.
The parcels were sold to a.m. Rodriquez Associates, doing business as Homestead Partners, for $10,000.
The development is part of a $13 million commerical/residential project with 50 to 55 housing units for family living that is planned.
A $500,000 grant has been awarded for the project.
â¢ American Natural, which acquired the operating fueling stations and a wholesale petroleum fuel distribution fleet from Mon Valley Petroleum, established its first conversion project in Station Square and an operating headquarters in Robinson.
The former Exxon station on East Carson Street now offers compressed natural gas along with traditional gasoline.
Oxford Development Co. serves as American Natural’s agent for the development of the station, was involved in the pre-construction, construction and post-construction phases of the project.
â¢ All-Star Sports Bar & Grill will open its second location in the region in early next year in Southpointe Town Center, Southpointe II, Cecil.
The restaurant has leased 4,500 square feet of space. All-Star Sports opened it first location in Robinson, Allegheny County.
â¢ Newest addition coming to Tanger Outlets is Janie and Jack, scheduled to open in the spring in 1,400 square feet in the former Designer Fragrance location near Tommy Hilfiger.
The Gymboree Corp.-owned apparel retailer caters to children.
â¢ Allegheny County Airport will receive $900,000 to rehabilitate and restore the historic main terminal buildings, while Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Westmoreland County will get $2 million for the first phase of constructing an addition to the terminal building.
Washington County Airport will receive $2.6 million to build a taxi lane and apron, as well as prepare a hanger site and construct a hanger. The funds for the improvements at local airports have been authorized by the General Assembly and approved by the state Transportation Commission.
The state has provided grants to other facilities in this region.
The Pittsburgh & Ohio Central Railroad received $525,000 to replace more than 12,000 feet of track, install a rail crossover and improve nearly five miles of track in Allegheny County, while Allegheny Valley Railroad Co. will get $1.3 million to make improvements to track between Bruceton and Washington so heavier freight traffic can move safely in Allegheny and Washington counties.
Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. received $2.8 million to remove deteriorated rail, install nearly 13 miles of track and improve additional track and four public railroad crossings throughout both counties. Three Rivers Marine Rail Terminal LP in Westmoreland County received $1.1 million to build 8,000 feet of track and install three switches to enhance storage tracks from the mainline, enabling the company to be a train destination for coal and sand for gas drilling.
â¢ A county-owned apartment building at 855 Rebecca St., Wilkinsburg, will have more space in the rear as a result of the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County approving the demolition of two vacant, deteriorated county-owned houses at 609-11 Coal St.
The building contains about six units.
â¢ A specialty men’s clothing store, Kenny & Jee’s Men’s Clothing has opened at 542 Merchant St., in Ambridge, with Kennth Crumb and his wife, Jeniece, as owners.
