Reason to privatize

It was just before 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, and the line at the state liquor store in Neshannock Township, just north of New Castle, was deep and getting deeper. People obviously were stocking up for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

A man was pushing a buggy stocked with bottles. Another man and a woman believed to be his wife were carrying baskets loaded with bottles. Behind them were more shoppers carrying bottles of various liquors.

A woman customer at the counter was clutching four bottles.

Only one of the two checkout counters had a working clerk. Another clerk was seen stocking shelves.

One of many reasons for privatizing the state stores in Pennsylvania.
