The American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter has reached a tentative agreement to sell its downtown Uniontown office building and is evaluating options for new office space in the city.
Organization officials said the pending sale will allow the Red Cross to have more funds available for disaster response by reducing operating expenses. The Morgantown Street building has been associated with the Red Cross since it was erected in 1973.
In a press release this week, the chapter's CEO said the building's sale and upcoming move won't affect the services provided for Fayette County residents. The sale tentatively is scheduled to be closed later this month.
"The Fayette County community can continue to expect the same level of service and commitment they have come to expect from their American Red Cross," Patricia Waldinger said.
The chapter's announcement did not reveal the purchase price for the building and property. Using 2003 as the base year, Fayette County has assessed the combined value at $117,290.
Officials said a standard first-aid with CPR/AED class scheduled for Feb. 27 will be moved to a location to be announced later.
