Redevelopment fund changes made to acquire Fayette properties
Fayette County’s redevelopment authority plans to make changes in the $1.8 million it receives under the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
The budget proposal will not change the total amount Fayette County received, just how $117,250 of the program money would be spent.
Andrew French, executive director of the redevelopment authority, said the funds have been or will be used for three purposes: renovating foreclosed homes, construction and demolition of blighted structures.
Six foreclosed homes in Uniontown and one in Connellsville have been or will be renovated by the nonprofit Threshold Housing Development group, which works out of Fayette, Washington and Greene counties.
Three new homes have been built in Masontown. One closing is scheduled. The authority has financial assistance available for eligible buyers of the other two.
City redevelopment authorities have worked with the county to demolish 11 blighted properties in Uniontown and two in Connellsville.
The budget change shifts the money allocated to demolition, rehabilitation and property acquisition in Masontown to Uniontown. Federal Community Development Block Grant money will take the place of Neighborhood Stabilization funds in Masontown.
The shift will allow the authority to acquire and rehabilitate two or more properties in Uniontown.
