Refrigeration certification training is available online and through a classroom-based program scheduled for this month at Westmoreland County Community College. The classroom program is set for noon-6 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Business and Industry Center at WCCC’s main campus, near Youngwood. Registration deadline is Sept. 21 for the classroom seminar. Registration for the online course is ongoing. Both programs are designed for people who handle refrigerants, such as building owners, maintenance workers and heating, ventilation and air conditioning technicians. The training, required by the Clean Air Act of 1990, meets requirements established by the Environmental Protection Agency. The classroom-based course consists of six hours of lecture, plus two hours of testing. The lecture covers material that will appear on the certification exam; questions are drawn from the EPA’s test bank. The online course includes lecture notes, hyperlinks to industry and government sites and exam questions with feedback. Online students may take the certification test at WCCC or at other sites approved by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. All participants are encouraged to read the Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Manual before attending class. The $30 manual may be purchased at the Business and Industry Center. Retests also are scheduled for Sept. 27 at WCCC. Photo identification must be presented at the retest, set for 2:15 p.m. Cost for the classroom program is $67 for Westmoreland County residents, $102 for others. The retesting fee is $57 for county residents, $82 for others. Cost for the online program is $21 for those who live in Westmoreland County, $31 for other Pennsylvanians and $50 for out-of-state residents. For more information, or to register, call WCCC at 800-262-2103.
