Kevin Srigley, director of marketing for Giant Eagle, said the station being built at the supermarket in Ohio Township - near the Camp Horne Road interchange with Interstate 279 - will open in early October. He said he does not know yet what brand of gasoline will be offered.
The O'Hara Township-based chain has operated two gas stations at supermarkets in Painesville and Youngstown, Ohio, for about a year. The positive results there, Srigley said, led Giant Eagle to bring the concept closer to home.
The Ohio Township site was chosen partially for its location near I-279. It would be the only gas station visible from the highway between Pittsburgh and the Wexford exit of I-79.
Giant Eagle's fuel station will be an attended station, with the pumps surrounding a kiosk.
'We generally have a number of grand opening activities,' Srigley said. 'It will be more of an opening of the fuel area rather than the total store, and those are on a store-by-store basis.'
