A European study finds that women who have had hysterectomies and removal of the ovaries are more likely to have low sexual desire. Researchers studied 1,685 women between the ages of 20 and 70. The subjects completed a “Profile of Female Sexual Function” questionnaire and also were classified on a Personal Distress scale. Women who had had a surgical menopause were more likely to have low libido and other sexual problems and to feel distressed about it than non-menopausal women or those who reached menopause naturally. The authors suggested that doctors be more conservative in removing women’s ovaries. The study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. © Copyright 2006 by United Press International
