Eight retired Palestinian security officers Monday refused to accept service awards from Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, sources said.
The sources refused to reveal the names of the officers who boycotted the ceremony. A total 10 officers were to be honored, but the ceremony was postponed after the boycott came to light.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the eight officers were protesting the way they learned of their forced retirements.
Abbas last week issued a presidential decree replacing nine brigadier generals over age 60 with younger high-ranking chiefs.
