Ringgold tabs coach from Ohio
Joel Feicht, an assistant at Wellsville (Ohio) High the last three years, was hired at Wednesday's school board meeting at a salary of $4,258.
The 32-year-old Feicht, who's in the restaurant management business, has a diversified coaching background.
Before going to Wellsville, Feicht also coached boys in the college and semi-pro ranks.
He coached one year at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and recruited at Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa.
He also coached a men's semi-pro team three years (1995-98) in England.
Besides coaching the basketballers at Wellsville, he also guided the girls' track team and served as the school's strength and conditioning coach.
Feicht has worked summer basketball camps at the University of Kentucky and Ohio State University.
He succeeds Mike Vuono, who resigned after going 54-47 in four years with WPIAL playoff appearances the first three seasons.
Feicht was chosen from a field of 14.
Voting against the hiring was director Lawrence Mauro.
'I wasn't comfortable with the method used,' said Mauro. 'I don't believe we were really given a choice.'
In other athletic business, the board accepted the resignation of Ramont Small as assistant varsity football coach and head girls' track and field coach.
Scott Frederick, the Rams' head boys' track and field coach, was named the acting girls' track and field coach for the remainder of the season.
