Ringo Starr's birthplace to be razed
A Liverpool City Council committee has ruled the house where Beatles drummer Ringo Starr was born has "no historical significance" and should be razed.
The small house is one of 460 properties slated to be demolished as part of an urban renewal project, the BBC reported Friday.
Razing of the former Beatle's house was put on hold two months ago, but the council's housing committee now says its investigation revealed Starr only lived there for three months as an infant, so the structure is expendable.
"John Lennon and Paul McCartney's childhood homes were preserved because they spent a significant part of their lives in them," a council spokesman said. "The house (where Starr was born) on Madryn Street has no historical significance."
The entire council is expected to vote on the issue Sept. 16, the BBC said.
