When the old Hulton Bridge is demolished Tuesday, 500 Riverview School District students will get to savor the moment — from a safe distance.

Brayman Construction, the main contractor, will broadcast the implosion live via closed circuit TV onto a large screen at the Tenth Street Elementary School auditorium and another building that will accommodate students.

Students who attend Riverview Junior-Senior High School will be moved for a few hours to the elementary school and another building in Oakmont since the high school is well within the 1,000-foot blast safety zone.

Students will be able to count down to the denotation with the bridge contractors.

“We want the kids to be proud of it,” said Karlene Durso, project engineer for Brayman.

“This is a big event. It was a great bridge that served this community for a long time.”

“What a gift it is for them to see this in their own backyards,” said Tiffany Nix, high school principal.

The students are expected to return to the junior-senior high within hours of the implosion.
