Visitors to Robert Morris University's Island Sports Center might notice a new name on an old rink. University officials announced Wednesday that Clearview Federal Credit Union purchased the naming rights to Collegiate Arena -- home to the university's NCAA Division I men's and women's hockey teams and host to select Pittsburgh Penguins team practices -- for an undisclosed price. The arena will be known as the Clearview Arena as part of a multi-year partnership. "We're very proud of what we have to offer here," said Rick Orienza, executive director of the Robert Morris University Island Sports Complex in Neville. "It's exciting to be aligned with this organization." Orienza said the agreement was beneficial for the complex and the credit union, which serves about 73,000 members in southwestern Pennsylvania. "Robert Morris University Island Sports Center has a record of success, an outstanding reputation and incredible involvement within our community, making them an ideal partner for Clearview," credit union President Mark S. Brennan said in a statement. Brennan could not be reached for further comment. The Clearview Arena, one of four rinks at the complex, is the first arena for which the university has offered naming rights. Orienza said the deal has been under discussion since the fall and that university officials are willing to consider naming rights for its other rinks -- a second ice rink, an in-line skating rink and a convertible ice/roller rink. "We're always looking for beneficial business opportunities," Orienza said. "We want to enhance our facilities and are always interested in new and innovative ways to create business partnerships."
