RMU’s Walton named NEC’s top coach
The Robert Morris football team Friday claimed three of the five major postseason awards in the Northeast Conference.
Joe Walton was named Coach of the Year, running back Myles Russ earned Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Alex DiMichele, a Sto-Rox product, was voted Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.
The Colonials travel to No. 25 North Dakota State tonight in the first round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Joining Russ and DiMichele as first-team selections from Robert Morris were quarterback Jeff Sinclair (Highlands), tight end Shadrae King (McKeesport), offensive lineman Corey Konycki, defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof (Mars), linebacker Elias Navarro, defensive back Michael Landers (Springdale) and punter Nick Schirtzinger. Duquesne receiver Dave Williams (Gateway) and defensive lineman Thaimu Bangura and St. Francis (Pa.) linebacker Scott Lewis also made the first team.
