Westmoreland County
1. State Route 119, Hempfield Township/South Greensburg/Southwest Greensburg:
Crews are widening Route 119 to accommodate left-turn standby lanes and installing a concrete median barrier. New traffic signals will be installed at two new intersections and seven other signals will be replaced. Traffic control for Phase III remains in effect. Motorists will encounter a single-lane closure of the inside "fast" lanes in each direction between the Kings Family Restaurant at Willow Crossing through Huff Avenue in South Greensburg. Construction has started in the Green Street area of the project. Work includes widening, paving and traffic signal installation. Mainline paving has started and will be performed during off-peak hours from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. A Median barriers are now in place. You can no longer turn left from many of the side roads. Left turns can be made at all signalized intersections only. Project should be completed by Nov. 30.
2. State Route 22, Murrysville/Export/Salem Township:
This project involves the reconstruction of four miles of Route 22 from just east of the Cozy Inn Cutoff in Murrysville to the Route 66 interchange in Delmont. Crews are performing grading and concrete paving at G&G Plaza to Manor Road in the westbound lanes. Grading and base placement will continue from Mark Drive to Salem Plaza and construction and pipe placement will continue from Mark Drive to Salem Plaza.
3. State Route 22, New Alexandria:
This project includes the reconstruction of Route 22 from east of Route 981 at New Alexandria to Route 982. Contractors' work includes clearing/grubbing, earthwork, cutting embankments, constructing type-one rock benches, rock-lined ditches, pipe placement, barrier placement, line painting, construction of erosion and sedimentation devices and utility relocation. As part of the Phase 2 construction Route 1033 State Park Road is going to be closed at the Route 22 intersection to allow the crews to build the eastbound traffic lanes and jughandle. A detour will be put in place. The detour is Route 981 South to Route 1031 to Route 1018 back to Route 1033. The closure is expected to last until July 31, 2007.
4. State Route 366, New Kensington/Lower Burrell:
The Parnassus Triangle reconstruction includes converting a three-way stop intersection to a signalized four-way intersection. Eastbound and westbound Route 366 traffic is using the new, four-way intersection at Logans Ferry Road and Industrial Boulevard. Construction is being completed for drainage work on routes 4085 and 366 and paving will resume. The next upcoming traffic change will open Industrial Boulevard. The road has been closed since last year from Fifth Avenue to the intersection with Route 366. Traffic may be restricted to one lane with flaggers maintaining traffic control.
5. Depot Street, Youngwood:
The project begins east of the intersection of Route 119 and runs to Route 2012. Crews are performing drainage work and currently pouring the last of the cheek wells and working on the manholes. The bridge structure is almost complete.
6. State Route 31, Mt. Pleasant Township:
This project on Three Mile Hill consists of widening the three-lane road to four lanes and includes installation of a downhill truck lane. Signs and median barriers are in place. Crews are implementing new traffic patterns changes to start the next phase. Motorists should be alert to all the traffic pattern changes. Traffic is scheduled to be diverted to the new roadway on eastbound and westbound lanes.
7. Derr Road/Yukon Road, Sewickley-South Huntingdon townships:
Yukon Bridge over Sewickley Creek is closed and is scheduled to reopen in December. Project completion and final paving will occur during the 2007 construction season. Crews are working on the structural backfill work.
8. State Route 119 Fourth Street and Third Street, Youngwood Borough:
This project consists of milling, concrete pavement patching and resurfacing Route 119 southbound (Fourth Street) from North Avenue to Burton Avenue and concrete pavement patching and resurfacing on Route 119 northbound (Third Street) from Painter Avenue to Oak Street. Seven traffic signals will be upgraded. Motorists will encounter a single-lane closure of the outside slow lane on Route 119 southbound (Fourth Street) and northbound (Third Street). Workers will be performing underground electrical and signal foundation work for traffic-signal upgrades at various intersections. There will be no parking along Third Street between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
9. Center Avenue, New Stanton:
The southern limit of this project begins at the intersection with Byers Avenue. Center Avenue will be widened and upgraded to just south of Broadview Road. This work will make available a center-turn lane for businesses at the southern end of the project. Within the northern end of the project, a new roadway and bridge will be provided to eliminate two right-angle turns and a narrow underpass beneath the turnpike. The new road will connect with Arona Road at the ramp to the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass. A left-turn lane will be added on Arona Road and a new signal will be installed at this intersection. No traffic restrictions are in place. Work continues on construction of rock embankment for the new bridge over the turnpike and roadway north of New Stanton.
10. State Route 356, Freeport Bridge:
This project consists of structural steel repairs to the north and south approaches to Freeport Bridge and spans across Buffalo Creek, structural repairs to floor beams on three-span continuous deck truss span over the Allegheny River, and other construction. The project is located in Allegheny Township in Westmoreland County, Freeport Borough in Armstrong County, Harrison Township in Allegheny County and Buffalo Township in Butler County. The Buffalo Creek portion of steel repairs was completed and traffic was switched back to one-way across the Laneville Bridge. Traffic coming from Natrona Heights is still in a single lane towards Freeport and will remain that way until the curb is placed and an inlet is installed. Steel repairs continue over the Allegheny River.
Fayette County
11. State Route 119, South Union Township:
The Walnut Hill Interchange project will add new traffic signals and two southern ramps to complete the full diamond-shaped interchange. Crews are currently performing paving of Walnut Hill Road, paving of the new northbound "off" ramp, line painting on Walnut Hill Road and 119 southbound, electrical work and tree and shrub bed planting.
12. Uniontown Bypass, State Route 119:
This project is located on Route 40 and the Route 119 Uniontown Bypass in North Union and South Union townships and Uniontown. It begins just north of the Bute Road interchange with a bituminous overlay to a point just west of the Walnut Hill interchange on Route 40. The overlay will end here and concrete patching and diamond grinding will continue until the bridge over the northbound ramp to Route 43. Concrete patching and joint repair will be performed on the entire length of the project. Crews are removing deteriorating concrete and replacing it with new 9-inch reinforced concrete in the northbound and southbound travel lanes. The replacement of the travel lane bridge approach slabs in the northbound and southbound lanes also will take place with seven-hour accelerated concrete patches being placed on the Route 119 northbound "on" ramp from Route 40. New ramp traffic patterns will be in effect. Crews are performing sawing and sealing work of the new pavement joints. Traffic changes on Route 119 located between Route 40 and Route 21 took place. Crews will be opening the work area between Route 40 and Route 51 and closing the travel lane from Route 40 to Route 21 in both the northbound and southbound directions.
13. State Route 40, Henry Clay Township:
This bridge replacement project begins east of the Jockey Hollow Information Center in Fayette County and ends 900 feet east of the Lakeside Road intersection in Somerset County. The lake level has receded and the "No Boat" buoys are in place to protect the remnants of the old bridge piers. Bridge is open.
14. State Route 711, Connellsville:
Crews are rehabilitating the six-span continuous steel I-beam bridge between Arch and First streets in Connellsville and are performing containment work under the bridge, working on the expansion dams, concrete collars and beams. The bridge is open.
Indiana County
15. State Route 22, West Wheatfield Township:
The road is being widened to four lanes from the Blairsville interchange east to the Mt. Tabor Church area, known as Penn View Summit.
16. State Route 286, Hillsdale:
Concrete patching and repair, drainage work, guide rail upgrades and resurfacing are continuing. The project should be completed Oct. 31. Work will continue on paving and embankment work for the new road alignment near Cush Creek Road. Utility companies will continue setting new poles and flagging operations will occur with minimal delays.
17. State Route 119 and 3056, Homer City:
Traffic will continue to be detoured along state routes 119 and 3056 as a new bridge is constructed to carry Route 3035 over Yellow Creek in Homer City, about 50 feet downstream of the existing span.
