Westmoreland County
1. State Route 119, Hempfield Township/South Greensburg/Southwest Greensburg:
This project involves widening Route 119 to accommodate left-turn standby lanes and to install a concrete median barrier. Traffic control for Phase II has been extended to Huff Avenue. Slow lanes are closed in each direction between Kings Family Restaurant at Willow Crossing through Huff Avenue. Construction will begin on the inside lanes between Huff Avenue to about 600 feet north of Cribbs Street. Construction is to be completed by Thursday. The contractor will be milling the roadway surface, removing the existing mountable curbs, constructing new curb alignments to enhance left-turn traffic movements and paving the roadway. Traffic patterns will be shifted often to accommodate construction operations. The lane closures will be in effect between Willow Crossing and Huff Avenue with traffic flow being unrestricted from Huff Avenue northbound. All work along the mainline between Huff Avenue and Cribbs Street is complete. Traffic has been restored to four lanes of travel through this area. Construction will soon start in the Green Street area of the project.
2. State Route 22, Murrysville/Export/Salem Township:
This project involves the reconstruction of four miles of Route 22 from just east of the Cozy Inn Cutoff in Murrysville to the Route 66 interchange in Delmont. Crews are working on the mainline concrete paving for the westbound lanes at Triangle Lane and eastward to Rick's Sports Bar. Asphalt paving will be done at Salem Plaza Pipe and work will continue between the GetGo and Salem Plaza reconstruction of Mark Drive.
3. State Route 22, New Alexandria:
This project includes the reconstruction of 22,066 feet of Route 22 from east of Route 981 at New Alexandria to Route 982. Excavation is continuing with lane transitions in place and temporary barriers set up in the eastbound lanes. Workers are clearing, cutting embankments, and relocating utility lines.
4. State Route 366, New Kensington/Lower Burrell:
The Parnassus Triangle reconstruction includes converting a three-way stop intersection to a signalized four-way intersection. Eastbound and westbound Route 366 traffic is using the new, four-way intersection at Logans Ferry Road and Industrial Boulevard. Construction is being completed for drainage work on routes 4085 and 366 and paving will resume. The next upcoming traffic change will open Industrial Boulevard. The road has been closed since last year from Fifth Avenue to the intersection with Route 366. Traffic may be restricted to one lane with flaggers maintaining traffic control.
5. Depot Street, Youngwood:
The project begins east of the intersection of Route 119 and runs to Route 2012. Crews are forming sidewalks, working on approach slabs and performing drainage work.
6. State Route 31, Mt. Pleasant Township:
This project on Three Mile Hill consists of widening the three-lane road to four lanes and includes installation of a downhill truck lane. Signs and median barriers are in place, with traffic restricted to one lane in each direction. The slow lane is closed eastbound. A detour is marked to assist motorists. The Snowshoe Road entrance to Bear Rock Community is closed until Tuesday. A detour route is posted using the Bear Rocks Road entrance via Route 1009.
7. Hyde Park Road, Allegheny Township:
This project consists of widening Route 4048 from two to three lanes between routes 56 and 356. Signal improvements will be included at both intersections. Work is tentatively to begin next spring. The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is to start relocating its waterlines.
8. Derr Road/Yukon Road, Sewickley-South Huntingdon townships:
Yukon Bridge over Sewickley Creek is closed. A marked detour utilizes Route 3012 (Derr Road), Route 136 (Greensburg Pike), Route 3037 (Waltz Mill Road) and Route 3012 (Yukon Road). Crews are pouring the deck, doing concrete repair work and painting the steel.
9. State Route 119 Fourth Street and Third Street, Youngwood Borough:
This project consists of milling, concrete pavement patching and resurfacing Route 119 southbound (Fourth Street) from North Avenue to Burton Avenue and concrete pavement patching and resurfacing on Route 119 northbound (Third Street) from Painter Avenue to Oak Street. Seven traffic signals will be upgraded. Motorists will encounter a single-lane closure of the outside slow lane on Route 119 southbound (Fourth Street) and northbound (Third Street). Workers will be performing underground electrical and signal foundation work for traffic-signal upgrades at various intersections. There will be no parking along Third Street between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
10. Center Avenue, New Stanton:
The southern limit of this project begins at the intersection with Byers Avenue. Center Avenue will be widened and upgraded to just south of Broadview Road. This work will make available a center-turn lane for businesses at the southern end of the project. Within the northern end of the project, a new roadway and bridge will be provided to eliminate two right-angle turns and a narrow underpass beneath the turnpike. The new road will connect with Arona Road at the ramp to the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass. A left-turn lane will be added on Arona Road and a new signal will be installed at this intersection. No traffic restrictions are in place. Construction signing has been placed and work has begun on demolition, clearing, grubbing, stockpiling of topsoil and construction of a detention basin.
11. State Route 30, Irwin:
Work will tentatively resume on the westbound lanes of Route 30 and the Irwin Viaduct Bridge over Tinkers Run this week.
12. State Route 356, Freeport Bridge:
This project consists of structural steel repairs to approach stringers on the north and south approaches to the Freeport Bridge and spans across Buffalo Creek, structural repairs to floor beams on three-span continuous deck truss span over the Allegheny River and abutment back wall stabilization at the southbound approach to Freeport Bridge and other construction. The project is located Allegheny Township in Westmoreland County, Freeport Borough in Armstrong County, Harrison Township in Allegheny County and Buffalo Township in Butler County. The structural repairs to the Freeport Bridge are continuing with a detour in effect and the bridge posted with a
3-ton weight limit.
Fayette County
13. State Route 119, South Union Township:
Known as the Walnut Hill Interchange project, construction consists of adding new traffic signals and two southern ramps to complete the full diamond-shaped interchange. Traffic is restricted on Walnut Hill Road to one lane in each direction and minor traffic modifications will be necessary along routes 43 and 119. Crews are removing the old Route 119/43 southbound ramp and constructing the embankment for the new Walnut Hill/Route 119 southbound on ramp. Crews are also placing electrical conduit for the new overhead sign structures.
14. Prison Road, Luzerne Township:
Work is on hold for this project to relocate Route 4020. It is slated for completion next month.
15. Uniontown Bypass, State Route 119:
This project is located on Route 40 and the Route 119 Uniontown Bypass in North Union and South Union townships and Uniontown. It begins just north of the Bute Road interchange with a bituminous overlay to a point just west of the Walnut Hill interchange on Route 40. The overlay will end here and concrete patching and diamond grinding will continue until the bridge over the northbound ramp to Route 43. Prior to the bituminous overlay and diamond grinding, concrete patching and joint repair will be performed on the entire length of the project. Placement of the pavement relief joints in the passing lane at the bridge over Route 40. Traffic has been switched and work is being performed in the travel lane. Crews will be saw cutting the areas of the pavement in need of replacement. The traffic pattern configuration at the Roue 51 ramps will shift to accommodate the areas in need of replacement.
16. State Route 40, Henry Clay Township:
This bridge replacement project begins east of the Jockey Hollow Information Center in Fayette County and ends 900 feet east of the Lakeside Road intersection in Somerset County. The lake level has receded and the "No Boat" buoys are in place to protect the remnants of the old bridge piers. A safe boat channel has been established just east of the center of the new bridge. As the water recedes and the old pier remnants emerge, demolition work will resume. No traffic restrictions are in place.

17. State Route 711, Connellsville:
A section of Route 711 is closed so that crews can rehabilitate the six-span continuous steel I-beam bridge between Arch and First streets in Connellsville. A detour directs motorists from Route 711 (Crawford Avenue) to Route 1037 (Pittsburgh Street) to Route 119 and back to Route 711. The bridge is scheduled to reopen Oct. 31.
Indiana County
18. State Route 22, West Wheatfield Township:
The road is being widened to four lanes from the Blairsville interchange east to the Mt. Tabor Church area, known as Penn View Summit.
19. State Route 286, Hillsdale:
Concrete patching and repair, drainage work, guide rail upgrades and resurfacing are continuing. The project should be completed Oct. 31. Work will continue on paving and embankment work for the new road alignment near Cush Creek Road. Utility companies will continue setting new poles and flagging operations will occur with minimal delays.
20. State Route 119 and 3056, Homer City:
Traffic will continue to be detoured along state routes 119 and 3056 as a new bridge is constructed to carry Route 3035 over Yellow Creek in Homer City. The new bridge will be constructed approximately 50 feet downstream of the existing span.
