Robert Morris University will celebrate its 10th year of football next season with a 10-game schedule beginning Sept. 6 at NCAA Division III Buffalo State.
It will mark the first of three consecutive road games and is the seventh season in a row in which the NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major Colonials will begin a season against the Bengals.
Robert Morris' home opener is 1:30 p.m. Sept. 27 against St. Francis (Pa.) at Moon Stadium. The game will serve as Joe Walton Bobblehead Day. The first 500 fans entering the stadium will receive a free doll.
Walton has coached Robert Morris, which is coming off a 3-7 record, every year since the university began a football program in 1994. Throughout the season, the school will recognize the sport's anniversary with the announcement of a 10th Anniversary Team and an All-Time Colonial Player. Fans will be able to vote via a ballot on the school's Web site, www.rmu.edu.
In addition, Robert Morris plans to announce weekly its list of top 10 moments in the school's football history.
The schedule also includes a renewal of the series with nearby Duquesne. Robert Morris owns a 3-1 edge against the Dukes, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 24-22 Duquesne victory in 1998.
Robert Morris will follow up its opener Sept. 13 with a visit to Monmouth (N.J.) in its first Northeast Conference game, then will play at St. Peter's on Sept. 20 in what will represent the first meeting with the Peacocks.
Among Robert Morris' remaining games is a Nov. 8 road matchup against defending NEC and ECAC Classic champion Albnay (N.Y.).
